Frequently Asked Questions

Q:  Where are you located?

A:  We have a small homestead in Hermitage, Pennsylvania which is on the far Western side of the state.  Ohio is only 10 minutes, and we are approximately halfway between Erie and Pittsburgh.  We have approximately one acre of land where we have over twenty fruit trees, rows and rows of berry bushes, an extensive vegetable garden, and a pollinator garden.  We share this land with 14 chickens, 10 beehives, 3 dogs, and 3 indoor cats.

Q:  How long before I receive my order?

A:  We typically fulfill our orders within 3-5 business days.  After that, it would depend on your method of delivery and where you are located.

Q:  Can I use your bars of soap as shampoo?

A:  Absolutely!  An acidic, conditioning rinse will help further improve your hair care.

Q:  What is the shelf life of your soap?

A:  Soap is very self-preserving and should be used within 3 years.  The scent may fade over time, but tend to show up strong again once the soap is used.

Q:  Are your products tested on animals?

A:  Never!!

Q:  Are your soaps vegan?

A:  Yes, most of them are.  All of the soaps that use Essential Oils are vegan.  The one exception is the Oatmeal Honey Soap, which contains honey and beeswax.

Q:  Is there lye in your soaps?

A:  No, there is not any lye in the bars of soap.  Lye is used in the process of making soap, called saponification, in which the fatty acids in the oils and butters are converted by the lye into the soap.  Calculations are done to ensure that just enough lye is used so that it is all consumed during this reaction.  In fact, many soapers (including myself) add just a little extra oil in our recipes for extra insurance that there will be no lye in the finished products.  We strive to maintain the highest levels of quality assurance in all of our products.

Q:  Are your soaps safe for babies?

A:  Yes, the soap is very mild and great for sensitive skin.  However, the soap is not tear-free so you would have to be careful not to get any in the baby’s eyes.  Because a baby’s skin is can be sensitive to Essential Oils or Fragrance, I highly recommend using our Naked Bar which is unscented and contains no colorants.

Q:  Can I wash my pets with your soap?

A:  Absolutely!!  Dogs, with no restrictions.  Cats should only be washed with our Naked Bar because some Essential Oils are toxic to cats.

Q:  I’m getting a burning sensation when using your Peppermint soaps.  Is that normal?

A:  It is common to experience a cool, tingling sensation due to the menthol, especially over sensitive areas.  However, some people are more sensitive to the effect than others.  If the sensation is uncomfortable, then we encourage you to try one of our many other scents.
